2024 - BkBeats

BkBeats is the festival at the Faculty of Architecture that takes place every two years is organized by 10 students, for more than 2500 students. In april 2024 BKBeats took an extra step towards sustainability by using hardcups through the support of the Stylos Fund. Because of new legislation, it is per January first a requirement for festivals to either use 90% PET recycled cups or hardcups when organizing an event. Through the financial support of the Stylos Fund it was possible to make the choice for the hardcup. These cups use a deposit system where every student gets a coin at the beginning of the festival they can exchange for a cup.

2023 – Brick by Brick

At the start of 2023 the exposition Brick by Brick was organised at the Faculty of Architecture. After being a part of a previous event in the Kunsthal Kade in Amersfoort, students brought the bricks to Delft. The project researched how bricks can be part of the form of a façade. The specific construction method for this is called dry stacking, meaning that bricks are stacked without mortar making it possible to disassemble them causing it to be very modular. The Stylos Fund always seeks to support events that inspire students and the Brick by Brick event inspires students to think about new ways to build with an old Dutch material.

After this we crossed the sea towards Morocco, a different country, a different continent, and a very different culture! Marvelling at how easily you are in a different world. The journey by train made it not only sustainable but above all a experience to never forget!

This was done through commenting on statements that were made in the documentary and discussing the actual changes that have taken place in the past two years. The Stylos Fund made it possible for us to furnish this night and promote it through helping us with financing. Through this we got a hall full of students and a very successful night!

French artist Olivier Grossetête builds large monumental constructions out of cardboard with the help of groups of people. The aim of his projects is to get people of different backgrounds and ages to work together by building a work of art. During one week, parts of the structure were made in different workshops. For these workshops, students and employees of the Faculty of Architecture, primary schools, refugee organisations, local residents and cultural institutions in Delft have been approached to participate. Then, when all parts are ready, the construction was built. The construction took place during one day beside the train station of Delft. On the last day, everyone can come and see the final result.
